PARIS-NICE CYCLING RACE: PORTE AND CONTADOR SET TO BATTLE

With this year’s edition of the Paris-Nice cycling race drawing closer, Richie Porte and Alberto Contador will be getting set to go head-to-head against each other as some of the top cyclists such as Wout Poels, Alejandro Valverde, and Geraint Thomas will be absent for the cycling event.

Early January saw Porte blasting out of the blocks in this year’s the Tour Down Under in and although he hasn’t raced in Europe this year, he remains one of the hottest favorites for the Paris-Nice cycling race.

Porte would be looking to pick up his third win in a race that terminates down the road from his European home situated back in Monaco.

In the BMC squad side by side with Porte would be Nicolas Roche. Nicolas on Monday, will be revealing the inside story concerning the eight day race in his daily diary. Three more Irish riders namely Philip Deignan, Dan Martin and Sam Bennett will also line up for the race that has been dubbed “Race to the Sun”.

For Deignan, he would probably be riding at Team Sky in a domestique role for Sergio Heano whilst the duo of Bennett and Martin will be looking towards adding up a second victory to their accounts for the 2017 season.

Bennett would be preparing towards the opening three days’ flatter sprint finish stages, while Martin will be seriously hoping to get to the mountains as the week comes to a close within touching distance of both Contador and Porte.

The Paris-Nice race will begin on the outskirts of Paris with a 150km criterium in Bois d’Arcy. Neatly divided into two parts with a time trial buffering the two, Sunday’s stage in Bois d’Arcy will be the first of three sprinter’s stages instead of a prologue time trial.
