Cycling legend Alberto Contador says that a quick decision on the Chris Froome case would be for the best. He refused to say exactly his thoughts on the matter but he clearly said that a fast decision would be the best for the sport.
Contador, who recently became a Eurosport
commentator, was speaking at the 2018 Vuelta aEspana presentation. He said the decision can’t be delayed as it was bad for everybody, including the race organizers. There are concerns that the Froome case could drag until the summer when the cyclist involved would be seeking victory in the Girod’Italia and a fifth title in Tour de France.

Alberto Contador is going to be declared the winner of Velo d’Or award for 2014. This will be the fourth time of Alberto Contador’s winning the best rider of the year award which will be a record. The winner is decided by votes of journalists and the poll is carried out by Velo Magazine, a French publication.
He had to quit the Tour de France that took place in July this year due to a crash that broke his shinbone. He returned to Vuelta a Espana after that and won it for the third time. During his successful spring campaign, he became the winner at Tirreno-Adriatico and at the Tour of the Basque Country. He is just behind Chris Froome on the roll of honour.
For French Cycling, it was very hard to win the award this year. But Jean-Chrisophe Peraud was finally able to win the award as he secured the second place in this year’s Tour de France. Since 1997, no Frenchman has been able to secure such a place in La Grande Boucle.
Officially, the winners will be named in Velo magazine’s next edition which will be published later this month.
The award was created by the Velo Magazine, a French publication in 1992. Previously, Lance Armstrong won the award for five times but he was stripped of his titles after he was found guilty of doping.
Alberto Contador was born in 6th December 1982 in Pinto in the Community of Madrid. His younger brother is afflicted by Cerebral Palsy; his also has an elder brother and an elder sister. His elder brother Francisco Javier introduced Contador to cycling when he was at the age of 14.
Contador and his wife Macarena live in the city of Pinto. In his spare time, Contador enjoys hunting. He also has a penchant for birds and has canaries and goldfinches he personally bred, at home.
Alberto Contador (Team Tinkoff-Saxo) had withdrawn from the 2014 Tour de France after he unfortunately broke his leg during the 10th stage of the tour. After just two months of the crash, Alberto Contador was able to make a noteworthy comeback at the 2014 Vuelta a Espana.
In all the stages of this cycling event, Contador performed exceptionally well. In the final 21st stage of Vuelta a Espana he was around one minute and thirty seconds behind Adriano Malori (Movistar Team) who won the final stage.
Contador was able to defeat Chris Froome (Team Sky) who became the runner up for this year’s Tour of Spain (Vuelta a Espana). The cyclist who stood in the third position overall at the tour was Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team).
The 2014 Vuelta a Espana victory marks the sixth grand tour victory for Contador. It is also the third time that he has won this tour because previously he has won the Vuelta a Espana in the years 2008 and 2012.
According to Contador, he was really not expecting to win the title of the tour for the third time. He said that he has faced lots of troubles in the past 2 months but he is thankful for the support that his fans have extended towards him. Alberto Contador even thanked his team Tinkoff-Saxo for their support as without them he would have not won the tour this year.
Even Chris Froome like Contador had undergone some injury during the Tour de France 2014. However, Froome was quite happy with his performance at the 2014 Vuelta a Espana and he thinks his performance has motivated him to work even harder for the future.
Tour of Spain was the last grand tour for David Millar as he has decided to retire after this cycling season comes to an end.
Andy Murray has made his way to the Round of 16 in the Aegon Championships which is going on at the Queen’s Club, London. He beat Paul Henri Mathieu of France quite easily in the straight sets in his first match of the tournament.
This was Murray’s 19th win on the trot on grass courts. The last time that he had been beaten on a grassy surface in a singles match was 2 years ago in 2012. Roger Federer had beaten him back then in the final of the Wimbledon Championships.
The match against Mathieu was the first match that Murray was playing after the appointment of his new coach Amelie Mauresmo. He had a practice session with the Frenchwoman just hours before the match and the Scot seemed to be benefitted from that as he was very clinical during his first outing on the green surface this season.
Just for a few moments in the second set, it appeared that Murray’s focus was getting shaken a little bit, but, that was only an aberration as the world no. 5, with a breakthrough in the 7th game, ensured that the second set would also go in his bag.
At the end of the match, when Murray was asked about that practice session that he had had with Mauresmo a while before the match, he said, “We just had a brief chat regarding the game, a couple of things we discussed and that’s it.”
“I don’t think my game would get changed drastically in the next few days. Once this tournament gets over and done with, then, there would be work done on certain things and that, hopefully, benefits me at Wimbledon.”
In the pre quarter final round, Murray will face Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic.
Tour France 2014 favourites Alberto Contador & Vincenzo Nibali have openly expressed their dissatisfaction about riding on British soil. Defining their experience as nerve-wrecking, all 3 of them have been expressive about the very hectic situation they were into throughout the 3 initial Tour France stages.
The most prominent problem by them is the over-enthusiasm of the fans who kept on coming into the riding track creating huge trouble for the participant riders. One of the Giant-Shimano sprinters clipped one of the fans on the 2nd day of the race, knocking the person over. Besides, David Lopez of Team Sky too hit another spectator on the 3rd stage yesterday.
The very weight of the numbers along the road side has received admiration from riders yet Nibali stressed that alongside surprising competitive riding for initial stages, the Tour on Bristish soil was nerve jangling for him.
“It was really nervous at finish given the continuous rain. Besides, there was little fear & a small accident but then again, nothing that bad”, remarked the race who proudly dons the yellow jersey being the overall lead of the esteemed race.
“My very 1st day in the yellow jersey was really exceptional. We stayed calm- there was little nervousness & stress by the end- but my squad (Astana) was a huge support for me & I was able to control my emotions well.”
The rain soared up serious tension on London roads by the finalization of 3rd tour France stage. It finished before the royal Buckingham Plaace along with the winning of Marcel Kittel. Contador was seen riding at front for the final few kilometers.
“If he (Contador) was in front, it is because he did not wish to take risks”, Nibali stressed. “There were several bends by the end. That was quite tough & he did not wish to take risk & hence stayed upfront.

34-year-old Wiggins stunned everybody once again as he gallantly completed the twenty-six miles ling hilly course within 53 minutes & 56 seconds- just a minute before Geraint Thomas. Defending champ Alex Dowsett came up as the 3rd man.
“This is probably my last British time-trial championship so to win it and perhaps never come back again is a nice way to end it and add it to the Olympic title and try and win the worlds at the end of the year,” Wiggins said.
“This is most probably my final Brit time-trial tour & hence a win this time has made it a wonderful way to conclude it”, remarked Wiggins after the great win. The Team Sky man was the dominant lead post lap 1 of the thirteen mile circuit & he maintained his gap in the second lap as well.
It was the 3rd national title for Emma Pooley who beat Katie Archibald & Dame Storey to claim the first position.
“It has been quite some years since I have ridden national championships & every time I have ridden it, I have been the winner”, stated the winner lady. “It is really special as it has been quite some time since I have won a championship.”
Scott Davies is naturally ecstatic to create a record with his stunning finish within 27 minutes & 45 seconds that left a 20 seconds + margin. “I am just over moon”, was his exact remark after the grand win.

Former Tour de France champion Alberto Contador, who rides for Saxo Tinkoff team, once again confirmed that he would not be defending his Vuelta a España title this year. However, it is expected that he would take part in the world championships that would take place later this season.
Recently, the Spanish rider spoke to Spanish daily and told that he did not plan to defend his Vuelta a España crown; it was never in his schedule. Saxo Tinkoff has a whole lot of strong cycle riders and all of them have the capability to do well individually. If Roman Kreuziger, Nicolas Roche and Rafal Majka decide to take part in the race, they could do quite well and battle for the podium.
After the end of Tour de France, Alberto Contador told reporters that he would race in Vuelta a España. That time, Team boss Bjarne Riis stated that the decision was not final and there might be some alterations in the schedule.
Alberto Contador, who finished 4th in this year’s Tour de France, told that he would now concentrate on one day races like Canadian WorldTour events, Milano-Torino, GP de Plouay in France and Giro di Lombardia.
He added that cycling is not mathematics, and sometimes the body does not respond. Before the Tour de France, they made various pre-Tour tests, and the results were the best he has ever had. Still, when he came in Corsica, the sensations were not good from the 1st day, and the watts were worse in the race than during training session and the result was what it was.
